About the Designer, Martha Powell

            Martha Powell is a fashion design Junior from Birmingham, AL, who is currently studying at Lasell College in Newton, MA. She has been sewing for well over 5 years and has received training from industry professionals.  She has competed in costume competitions at Anime Boston three years in a row, as well as Persacon '08, winning third place in Anime Boston '11, and best in show at Anime Boston '12. Martha's work has also been featured in three fashion shows at Lasell College, as well as SouthCoast Today, Emerson College's News Channel, Emerson College's News Paper, the Dartmouth Rising Stars Art Show '10, the Dartmouth High School Art show '10, as well as a host of others.
            Martha has been trained in historical costuming, pattern drafting and grading, various couture sewing techniques, fashion illustration, design concepts, and hand appliqué, as well as Abode Photoshop and Illustrator.  She prides herself in her attention to detail and accuracy when transforming a two-dimensional image into a wearable garment.
  She has also spent a semester abroad in London, England, at the London College of Fashion where she trained in draping, corsetry and shoe making.
                

About the Dear Dahlia Atelier

              All garments are made in Dear Dahlia's atelier that is out fitted with a home industrial sewing machine, six dress forms, two hat busts, over 860 patterns, pattern paper, sewing texts, two sergers, a steamer, an industrial iron, and a Husqvarna Designer Ruby embroidery machine.  Dear Dahlia also has an array of thread in every color as well as fabric on hand to take care of most jobs. 
           All Dear Dahlia garments will always be lined when possible, include pockets and be outfitted with the proper interfacing when needed. There's no need to worry about your garment fraying or falling apart!  Every garment shipped will include a "care" card detailing the care instructions for the garment and is guaranteed to be pressed and laundered. Dear Dahlia's atelier also houses two lovely dogs, so if you are allergic to canines, please state that in your contact information.
